Visitors

Grandma and Aunt Barb came to visit last weekend. Here we are buying tickets for the metrolink to go down to the Earthday stuff in Forest Park. Turned into a long walk, for the most part - not all that much interesting to see down there, from our perspective. We kept hoping Isabella would fall asleep in her stroller, but no such luck (she ended up not taking a nap at all that day). She did, however, enjoy playing with my sunglasses. I was not allowed to wear them.

We also went down to the Magic House. Isabella's still a bit young for most of what's there, but she did enjoy sliding down the slide (and being pushed back up it), playing in the tub full of balls, playing with the cups in the water, and, of course, chasing the fish down the "stream".

Being the encouraging sort of person she is, she sat and clapped whenever anyone else managed to "catch" a fish. She also had a lot of fun taking the fish off of the "hook". She didn't seem too fazed by all of the larger kids running around at top speed. Guess there's some advantage to having her in day care! 

On the way back from the Magic House we stopped at the used bookstore, which did happen to have some kid's books, although not the best selection. The store did, however, have some really nifty step ladders. A certain someone can now cross up and down stairs off of her list of accomplishments - she had no problem going to every single set of ladders and going up and down them all by herself (she also made it down our front steps while hanging onto the railing). She's still a bit short for our wooden stairs, I think, but it won't be long.

There was lots of "grandma!" this weekend - grandma push me, sit in grandma's lap, grandma carry me... We're still getting a few "Grandma?" questions whenever she hears someone that isn't one of us. And she keeps looking around for grandma to push her around in her high chair... I think we'll save that particular entertainment for the next time grandma visits...

She also acquired a cool new plastic horse from Aunt Barb (which she spotted before I did) as well as lots of new books, some with things that move and some with puzzle pieces. And some new clothes - she still has more clothes than her parents!

New words: Sit, push, puzzle, squirrel, up and down, sandals, hot, stairs, pants, toes, spoon. She's still tucking bunny into bed, sitting him on the potty, putting elephant in the high chair, putting birdie and penguin into the crib, putting necklaces on bunny, and she even had grandma put shoes on bunny. She's getting really good at throwing balls - both some smaller ones inside and bigger ones outside. She's also walking everywhere - she's made it down to the post box several times, and up and down the street. And she's starting to climb on things. Uh oh. Chair rungs, the gates - anything where she can get her feet up and hang onto something. She's also experimented with pushing herself around on her wheelie bug, although that still doesn't seem to be half as much fun as being pushed around on her train, stroller, or high chair.

She spent an hour last week taking everyone's temperature. I asked, and yes at day care they take the temperature in the arm pit. Which would explain why she kept sticking the thermometer in her, and everyone else's, shirts. 

We were down at REI today buying stuff for car camping. She found the little baby bicycles. She doesn't quite fit on them - her feet don't reach the pedals - but I pushed her around on them. She is quite happy with her new bicycle riding position on the front handle bars. Even let me put her helmet on her head!
