We left Thursday afternoon. Kind Ann drove us to the airport so that we wouldn't have to bring the car seat and she could pick me up when I got back. We left early afternoon for the four hour flight to LA. This is us in the bus to the car rental place. This is, btw, Isabella's bed time. Notice how sleepy she looks.
We almost thought we had an empty space between us on the flight out, but no such luck - someone got on at the last minute. She was good on the flight out, other than treating mom like a bouncy climbing gym. Note to self: Do not feed small child a whole thing of orange juice before getting on the plane. (She loves drinking with a straw.)
At the car rental place Isabella helped by rolling the suitcase all the way through the parking lot. She really likes that suitcase because she can push it around herself (even though it's as tall as she is). Took a bit of futzing to get out of the car lot - they had given us an infant car seat and we had to go back and get one that fit.
Airplane was probably her favorite word. The car rental place is right underneath the flight path and she was fascinated by the planes flying overhead. And we had lots of looking out the window of the airplane at other planes before takeoff.
It was about half an hour to the hotel. By this time it was 8 o'clock (10 our time) because the flight was delayed - ended up going all the way to the south around Big Storm Clouds. They had a dinner in a suite at the hotel. Isabella came with us and sat in my lap and ate pasta. She was doing pretty well for only having a small nap on the drive out. The serving woman thought she was ever so cute in her pajamas.
The next day Bill played chase the baby around while I worked. She's gotten so she really prefers to walk - and push and pull us around in the process. She gets hold of a pant leg or two and tugs us in the direction she wants to go. We ate breakfast at a little table a ways away from the breakfast buffet and she walked back and for several times.
She spent some amount of time sitting in my lap playing with everything in sight (the napkins, the glasses, spoons, paper, pens...) while Bill tried to do some email. That night, I took her with me to dinner while Bill stayed in the hotel to work. It was about a 10 minute walk down to the restaurant. We sat outside, which was good, because large amounts of food got dropped... she played with the crackers in the water (my water got a bit icky), the spoons, the straws, the food, jumped up and down in my lap, pointed out planes flying overhead, made faces at the waiters and waitresses... then finally fell asleep just as dinner was over. She slept the entire walk home and went straight to sleep. There should be some pictures of us at dinner - someone was passing a camera around - but I don't know if they've posted them or not.
The second day was held at the conference center itself. We tucked Isabella into her backpack carrier (backpack has become another favorite word) and walked down, which took about 20 minutes. They had breakfast there, and Bill got a bit of wireless in before heading back to the hotel with her. They picked me up at the conference center in the afternoon for the flight out. More later....
