Jan 9th

Went to work for a meeting - She was very well behaved and played with her new socks - they're black and white "soccer" socks and wave around in interesting ways.

Trying to figure out if she wakes up because she passes gas, or if waking up makes her pass gas. Either way, she's *really* unhappy about it, and often cries when doing so, particularly at night.

Jan. 10th

We went to the movies today! One of the local theaters has a "cry baby matinee". Oddly enough, except for a few baby wails, it was actually *quieter* than the last couple of times I've been - no cell phones, people talking. Isabella fell asleep in the sling on the way in, woke up long enough to eat something, then went back to sleep. She was so out of it that I managed to get her back in the sling, out to the car, and into her car seat without waking her up. If only getting
her to sleep at night were as easy! She gets almost to sleep then starts thrashing and wakes herself back up. A couple rounds of this, plus eating and a couple diaper changes, and it's about two hours for two hours of sleep.

Jan 11th

Very well behaved child today, although a bit panicked getting out the door in the morning (10am meeting). She slept through the meeting, had lunch, then off to the climbing gym. She quite enjoyed that, and I got to do at least a few routes! She sat quietly and watched all the
new and interesting things. Two back-to-back really messy diapers - I don't know how all that fits in there!

Jan 12th

Gave up and slept in the sling, Much easier to get up and down, and certainly easier on the back and arms. I'll just pretend I'm a kangaroo... It certainly is a lot easier to get things done when she's in the sling - although she really wants to be able to see when she's awake, which is a bit tricky because her head won't stay up yet.

Trying a day diaper-less. It's easier in some ways (no wondering if she's wet or changing her) but it requires a fair amount of manual dexterity to keep a diaper under her backside. Not that we've needed it much, except for the poopy gas. Had one container malfunction - plastic bowls are a bit tippy. Also have a lot of "nothing happens" - hopefully that won't confuse her. It's also hard to manage when she flails and cries her way through passing gas.

Had a few new random vowel sounds.

Dad tried the sling at night with great success - she woke up just long enough to eat then went back to sleep. Maybe we should call it the seahorse sling.

Jan 13th

Fussy day today - she just wanted to sleep. Dad's getting good at slinging her to sleep, and practicing the art of one handed typing. He's ordered a chording (one handed) keyboard. We have a cd now of a vacuum cleaner which works as well as the real thing, and has a volume control. Now I just have to get Bill to burn it to the IPod so I don't have to go up and down two flights of stairs in the middle of the night.

The baby potty arrived today. Much more stable and splash-proof than a plastic bowl. Dad's less sceptical, and highly amused by the occasional "accident" (when it involves me, and not him, of course).

Dad says she's been a bit more purposeful in her flails - she likes the "sun" side of the toy better than the "moon" side. She's started reaching and making lip smacks more actively when she's hungry, too, which helps.

Jan 14th

We had some new vowels this morning, and she's "squeaking" a lot in her sleep. I think she's trying to communicate when she's done squatting. Went down to the climbing gym today - she really does like it there. Spent some time looking around, then went to sleep. We (mistakenly) thought it would be mostly empty, but a troop of over 20 scouts showed up in the middle. Ah well, at least with that much noise you can't hear her cry...

Pretty quiet night, although she did not want to go to sleep, so there was an hour or so of howling before she sacked out. We've got the white noise running upstairs now (burned the CD to the IPod) so at least I don't have to trek up and down the stairs.

Jan 15th

Not so fussy today, although mom scored poorly on the "needs to go" scale. Never assume that just because she's gone, she can't go again... She's starting to settle into a 3 nap routine. Tried to get her to go to sleep before the wailing started, but no real luck. Dad says she actually wanted to be picked up out of her vibraty chair to be held. I slipped out for my first Pilates class, which helped a bit with the hip pain from sleeping sideways.

Finally got the middle of the night routine down. Feed, wait until she wakes up, pee, then feed back to sleep. Now if only I could get some sleep in there...
