We often play rock, paper, scissors to decide who gets to change the baby. Well, last night we did that - and Isabella joined in! She hasn't *quite* got paper down, let alone scissors, but she does a pretty good rock!
She's become pretty attached to her penguin. We were having a really hard time getting her to go to sleep a couple nights ago, so we finally just left her in her crib to cry for a few minutes (she just kept bouncing off of the crib sides, or getting up and down in the bed, or flinging herself around if we tried to hold her). I came back in and found her on her tummy, one penguin under each arm, poor thing. I rubbed her back and she finally fell asleep, and actually slept pretty soundly most of the night. The next morning both penguins had to come to breakfast with us, and I had a bit of trouble convincing her that penguins don't eat blueberries... Penguin also walked with us to work, clutched in Isabella's hand. She let us know she wanted a stroller ride by getting penguin and banging on the stroller, saying up! She's done that a couple times now - and if we weren't clued in enough, she went and got her jacket, then Bill's jacket...Unfortunately, it's been down in the single digits (Fahrenheit!) so we haven't wanted to take her outside for a walk, so she's had to settle for being pushed around the living room in her stroller.
We went to Chris's house (friend from work, climbs with us) for New Year's Eve and had a really good time. Isabella went here, there, everywhere - was particularly entranced by the kids playing with the little basketball hoop in the basement. I think she would have joined in if she wasn't half their size! Chris and Barb put a mattress on the floor so we could put Isabella to sleep, which meant we could stay up until midnight playing the new game Bill got me, Munchkin. Our doctor, Betsy, was also there with her three kids - she's good friends with Barb - so it was nice to get a chance to talk with her outside of the office. She has teeth all over the place. Sticking a finger in her mouth is a perilous business, but I think she has all her first molars in, although no sign of the eye teeth yet, which is a bit odd.
She's been into playing peek a boo, either around the coffee table, around the blue chair, or around her bouncy chair in the basement. And throwing scarves over her head. She also made herself a small space to crawl into in the basement using the pillow and the big poufy chair, and with a cardboard box upstairs.
We bought a new car (Hyundai Accent, blue). Isabella did really well - we were down there for about four hours, and she hadn't had a nap, but no fussing - although she passed out as soon as we put her in the car to go home. The car's a two door with a hatch back, which is actually easier to get her in and out of, oddly enough, because the door opens wider and the front seat folds out of the way.
We had our first day back at daycare (yay!) today. She wasn't her usual self, though, don't know if it's her shots (this morning) the cold Bill's come down with, the teeth, not being with us after two weeks... who knows.
One other fun thing she likes to do is come up behind you when you're sitting and give you a hug/lean on your back.
